A luxury biophilic spa resort carved into tropical jungle contours.
Commissioned as an ultra-exclusive commercial wellness retreat in the lush river valleys of Ubud, Bali, Aura Wellness Sanctuary demonstrates how hospitality architecture can nurture mental, sensory, and biological restoration. The campus comprises 12 private cantilevered guest pavilions, a central Ayurvedic treatment hammam, a hydrotherapy thermal loop, and a bio-climatic yoga pavilion suspended over the rainforest canopy.
The architectural master plan minimizes site disruption by utilizing stilt-pole structural engineering: buildings touch the earth at isolated points, preserving native watershed ravines and centuries-old banyan trees. Curved rammed-limestone retaining walls cascade along natural topographical contours, creating terraced reflecting pools and private open-air bathing gardens.
Bio-Climatic Microclimate Engineering
Rather than relying on energy-intensive mechanical air conditioning in a humid equatorial climate, the pavilions utilize hyper-efficient passive aerodynamic chimneys. High-level operable timber louvers draw warm humid air upward and exhaust it into the canopy breeze, pulling cool, forest-filtered air across subterranean water features into the sleeping chambers.
